FluBlok

FluBlok is the brand name for a quadrivalent, seasonal vaccine that is not made from viruses grown in eggs. Instead, the hemagglutinin genes from the selected seasonal influenza strains are cloned an insect virus (baculovirus) and expressed in insect cell culture. Since no eggs are used, patien's with egg allergy need not worry about an allergic reaction. The vaccine performs as well as or better than the egg-based vaccine, and production does not depend on having millions of eggs in which to grow the vaccine viruses.
