Welcome to the Bo Schembechler Wines webpage. I hope you are enjoying my wine selections. Your purchase of each bottle helps me donate $2 to the Bo Schembechler Heart of a Champion Research Fund, which supports early stage research at the University of Michigan Samuel and Jean Frankel Cardiovascular Center.

I met Bo one winter in Florida. After our first introduction, his parting words were, “See you around like a doughnut." We eventually married and enjoyed years of travel, great friendships and sampled wine from some of the most beautiful places on earth. We shared short poems to each other; yes, the “General” was a romantic. But Bo's heart health was always in the background. Heart attacks, two bypass surgeries and diabetes "would have killed a lesser man". Bo applied the same determination and discipline he taught his players to extend his time with me through diet, exercise and world class medical care.

Please join me in enjoying our wine releases; one for each year Bo coached at Michigan. With your help, the Bo Schembechler Heart of a Champion Research Fund has already received over $150,000. Please read more about my selections for this year's release, celebrating Bo's 1971 season of coaching Michigan Football.

A special thank you to all who have made this venture possible; in particular, Tabor Hill for producing these great Michigan wines, and my dear friends Kim Eagle, M.D., Jim Brandstatter and Fritz Seyferth for their endless contributions.

Pinot GrisBo Schembechler Michigan Pinot Gris

A fruitful aroma is coupled with obvious pear, melon, and faint green apple. In the mouth the flavors echo the aromatic fruits. The wine begins with a hint of sweetness then broadens to a medium rich body, and tails to lingering fruit flavors leaving the mouth feeling refreshed for another sip. In the traditional Gris Style, this wine is built to serve as an aperitif or an accompaniment to food.

MerlotBo Schembechler Blue Steel Michigan Merlot

This Lake Michigan Shore Merlot is actually a blend of vintages combining bright red fruit elements with darker, more classic layers. This depth is on display in the bouquet where notes of Asian spice, plum and blueberry are supported by a subtle finish of earthiness. The palate is both velvety and balanced, with flavors that echo the aromas. These flavors are held together by slight tannins and accented by oak-inspired notes of toasted vanilla. Will pair well with strongly flavored cheeses, red meats, pork and lamb as well as a rich dark chocolate dessert.
