Recovery

Your first stop after the surgery is the recovery room, where you will stay for several hours. While there, you will be closely monitored, and you will be given pain medication. You are weighed both before and after surgery; you can expect to gain around 5 to 10 pounds of “water weight” around the time of surgery. For a while you will have a catheter in your bladder which will be removed a couple of days after your transplant. The catheter keeps your bladder decompressed to avoid pressure on the new ureter’s connection to the bladder.
