It is true that she should not receive the influenza vaccines made from virus grown in eggs. This includes both the most commonly-used inactivated and in live, intranasal vaccines. However, there are now two alternative vaccines that are prepared egg-free for just this circumstance:
- Flucelvax® is trivalent influenza vaccine grown in Madin Darby Canine Kidney (MDCK) cells. It is approved for persons aged >=18 years
- FluBlok® is trivalent recombinant HA influenza vaccine (RIV3) containing purified HA proteins produced in a continuous insect cell line using a baculovirus vector. It is approved for persons aged 18-49 years.
