Wrap Up

• This young woman had no abnormality on Physical Examination.
• Her resting electrocardiogram was likewise normal.
• Her history was consistent with SVT:
  • Young, with low probability of structural heart disease.
  • Abrupt onset and, at least at times, abrupt termination.
  • Variable duration of attacks (not stereotyped).
  • No significant cardiovascular symptoms associated with attacks.
  • Attacks at home…(safe place).
• The tendency for patients to feel like urinating during sustained SVT is related to the release of atrial naturetic hormone from the atria.
• Because of a high probability, clinically, of SVT, she was referred to Cardiology.
