Wrap Up

• This pleasant, elderly woman, had a grossly irregular pulse, and evidence of mild congestive heart failure on Physical Examination.
• Her resting ECG confirmed the presence of atrial fibrillation.
• Her initial treatment consisted of rate control with a beta blocker and anticoagulant therapy.
• Her symptoms improved rapidly and she did NOT LOSE HER INDEPENDENCE.
