Wrap Up

• Mr. Z's physical examination was negative except for some questionable crackles at the right posterior base.
• His ECG showed only sinus tachycardia (rate 110).
• However, his pretest probability of PE was high on the basis of his pleuritic chest pain, dyspnea, ankle injury, and tachycardia.
• His ventilation/perfusion lung scan indicated a high likelihood of emboli as expected.
• Treatment was begun immediately.
