Rogel All Stars 2021 Recipients

Award Type: MVP - Meeting Core Values

Kara Milliron

"Ms. Milliron has served our patients and our Cancer Center selflessly and loyally for 24 years, with compassion, knowledge, and enthusiasm. Working evenings and weekends."

Jennifer Hon

"She is an energetic, highly motivated individual with excellent time management skills and assist in my projects focused on cancer biology and therapeutics."

Carson Kenum

"Carson has strong organizational and multi-tasking skills and helps my research group with several cancer biology projects."

Seema Chug

"Amazing coworker without outstanding research skills."

Award Type: High Five - Exceptional Customer Service

Rima Karaki

"Rima does an amazing job with making patients feel comfortable and helping them navigate the complexities of scheduling in our healthcare system. A patient recently shared that Rima's TLC has helped her family tremendously. Rima is also an amazing problem solver for our clinical genetics team, and she is our go-to person for coordinating patient care!"

Stephanie Taylor

"She consistently goes above and beyond for patients and works very hard to ensure optimal care."

Award Type: Homerun - Teamwork & Collaboration

Annie O'Reilly and Tara Nisbet

"Annie and Tara work together seamlessly in providing efficient and first-rate care to our lymphoma patients. They are dedicated to both our patients and faculty, routinely work long hours, and always exceed expectations. Their ability to adapt and problem solve have mitigated the impact of challenges elsewhere within the cancer center on the lymphoma group. Their teamwork, knowledge base (in lymphoma), operational insight, and get it done attitude are second to none. They would be impossible to replace - and that's no exaggeration. They're a homerun team!"

Melanoma Oncology Team

"This team always works together to meet the patient's needs."

Susan Daron

"Susan Daron has made herself an expert in all matters of pancreatic cancer. As a result, she really is the glue that holds our program together. Without her clinical insight, attention to detail, empathy for patients, leadership, and professional communication skills, our ability to extend expert care to people with pancreatic cancer would suffer immeasurably. I am so grateful to be able to work with her."

Cancer Center Adult Infusion Nursing

"This team continuously provides safe, quality and compassionate care to our oncology population. They are patient advocates, provide exemplary patient education and ensure that patients have the coordinated care they deserve despite the challenges of our complex care environment."

Jean Tien

"She is a great team player, helping most of our research group with in vivo therapeutic studies."

Kari Wilder-Romans

"Without Kari around to keep things running smoothly, daily lab function would quickly fall apart. Cell culture supplies are ordered and stocked before you even have a chance to ask, tubes are autoclaved and ready for use at all times, and any university paperwork you can imagine is filled out weeks before you ever knew you needed it. What more could you ask for in a lab manager? Well, aside from all of the things she does to keep the wet lab running, she also maintains our entire colony of mice. In fact, Kari singlehandedly manages everything from normal colony maintenance all the way to in vivo drug and radiation treatments. You might say think being a lab manager isn't as hard as something like brain surgery… but don't worry, Kari knows how to perform those in vivo too. Beyond her impressive talents in the laboratory, make sure you consider the fact that Kari also has to deal with a "colony" of needy graduate students, techs, postdocs, and PIs from two separate labs who always ask for her help - and trust me, we're a lot of work!"

Lymphoma Nurses

"Our lymphoma nurses (Annie O'Reilly and Tara Nisbet) work seamlessly together as a team, taking outstanding care of our patients and frequently going above and beyond their duties to ensure best patient care."

Michigan Radiation Oncology Quality Consortium (MROQC) Coordinating Center

"Celebrating 10 Years of Improving Radiation Treatment Delivery to Patients Across Michigan"

Barb Walters

"Barb has coordinated and managed the RO model initiative, working with Rad Onc providers, administration and ensuring we are ready for implementation. Her due diligence and assistance has been greatly appreciated, this is no small project. Thank you, Barb!"

Angela Haley

"While Angela doesn't work in the Cancer Center, she has stepped in to assist with process improvements in a huge way. She has lent countless hours of her time and expertise to improving Cancer Center work flows with the express goal of improving patient care. Not only has she solved problems, she has provided viable roadmaps to success and used this as a teaching opportunity for everyone around her. She is a true role model in this institution. This work she has done is 100% outside of her job duties, but her commitment to patient care, teamwork and collaboration drive her. She is incredibly talented and deserving of this award."
