The Program in Biomedical Sciences (PIBS)

PIBS requirements for first year students are flexible--thus allowing students to concentrate on research rotations and the selection of laboratories. Students design course schedules compatible with training programs in which they are interested and begin recommended coursework based on the guidance of faculty academic advisors.

1	Summer rotations begin for July start students (approx. 8 weeks)
11	Latest deadline for lab mentor selection for July start students

September
2	Fall term classes and full rotations begin (approx. 14 weeks)
10	Latest deadline for fall lab mentor selection and schedule worksheets due

January 2009
6	Latest deadline for winter lab mentor selection(s) and schedule worksheets due
7	Winter term classes and full rotations begin (approx. 14 weeks) or optional first half winter rotation (approx. 7 weeks)

February
25	Optional second half-term winter rotation begins (approx. 7 weeks)

April
15	Students may begin to declare permanent department/program and mentor choices
20	July-start students: Permanent department/program and mentor selections due**

May
1	July-start students begin in permanent department/program September-start students: Latest deadline for spring lab mentor selections. Spring term rotations begin (approx. 8 weeks) or may gegin in permanent department/program

June
18	September-start students: Permanent department/program and mentor selections due** begin in permanent department/program July 1.

**Mentor and program selections are due at this point to allow the necessary time to ensure that your healthcare and stipend continue uninterrupted when you transition to the Ph.D. Programs. If additional rotations are needed, please contact the PIBS Office to make arrangements.
