College Students

Through our college student programs, we set the groundwork for success. We provide the kind of coaching that helps students realize their potential, and gives them the tools and resources to make great things happen.
Summer Opportunities for Apprenticeships in Research (MedSOAR)
Highly motivated college students can earn a small stipend while they learn and explore a career in medicine and/or biomedical sciences. Students work in either a research lab or a clinic to experience biomedical science firsthand. Students must have previously participated in a U-M Medical School Diversity & Career Development program or be a U-M student with a pre-med focus in order to apply and participate.
Pipeline Program and Profile for Success
The U-M Medical School collaborates with the U-M School of Dentistry on two intensive residential pre-medical pipeline programs for underrepresented and disadvantaged college students. The Pipeline Program is a academic science skills strengthening opportunity for college freshman and sophomores. The Profile for Success program, for college juniors, seniors or recent graduates, is all about preparing to be a successful applicant to medical or dental school.

Pre-Med Academic & Career Advising
Comprehensive individual & group pre-med advising and career coaching is offered to college students. Staff advisors provide students with guidance on the medical school application process and help students understand the essential elements needed to become a competitive applicant. In addition, staff advisors provide referrals for support services and collaborate with various U-M departments including the U-M Career Center and the U-M College of Literature, Science and the Arts Advising Center.
