How to Apply

Thank you for your interest in applying to the University of Michigan Medical School! All applicants must complete a preliminary application through the American Medical College Application Service (AMCAS) in order to be considered for admission.
Once your application has been processed by AMCAS, you will receive an email with a link to the University of Michigan Medical School secondary application. You will also receive a link to your official status web page, where you will be able to check the status of your application regularly. Our admissions process is transparent. We feel applicants deserve to know where they stand at any given time. Please feel free to contact the Admissions Office with any questions.

ALL letters of recommendation must be submitted via the AMCAS Letter Service. During the application process, there will be a section asking for your Letter of Recommendation information. Please consult the AMCAS instructions for additional details.
At the University of Michigan, we will not accept any Letters of Recommendation sent directly to the medical school. Any letters we receive will not be accepted, will not be placed in your application file nor will they be retained in any other form.
To summarize:
- ALL letters need to be submitted using the AMCAS letter service.
- Do NOT send any letters directly to the University of Michigan Medical School.
- Any letters sent directly to Michigan will not be accepted nor retained.
Here is the University of Michigan Medical School application year at a glance:
JUNE: The University of Michigan Medical School begins accepting applications for the entering year.
JULY: File review begins and initial interview offers are sent.
AUGUST: Interviews begin, continuing until the end of January.
OCTOBER: At midnight on October 15, the first round of admitted students is notified. The University of Michigan Medical School has a rolling admissions policy. After October 15, students will be notified of their status within a week of their interview.
October 15 is the deadline for the MD Program and the Medical Scientist Training Program (MD/PhD).
NOVEMBER: Secondary applications are due November 30.
JANUARY: Financial aid information and forms are sent to admitted students.
APRIL: A student-organized Second Look Weekend for admitted students is held.
MAY: An applicant offered a position in the entering class is required to accept or decline the offer by returning official forms and a non-refundable enrollment deposit by May 15 of the entering year. Deferrals may be granted at the discretion of the Assistant Dean for Admissions.
JUNE: Information about housing, immunization records, etc. is sent to students.
