Event Related Sterility

Central Sterile Processing Department employs the concept of event related sterility which means the sterility of an item is determined by how it is handled rather than by time (an expiration date).  A sticker which indicates the load control number and the processed date is affixed to each processed item.  The load control number and processed date are used for recall and stock rotation purposes.  Items will remain sterile indefinitely unless the package becomes wet or torn, has a broken seal or is damaged in some other way.  Any item suspected of being compromised, should not be used and Central Sterile Processing Department immediately contact the CSPD staff at 66168 or CSPD Manager Julia Jackson at 66162 or pager #32626.
