Research Interests
Dr. Malani holds a joint appointment in the Divisions of Geriatric Medicine and Infectious Diseases. Her research interests involve infections in older adults, antimicrobial resistant organisms, and infection control. Dr. Malani also holds a long standing interest in humanities and medicine. Her previous work has primarily centered on issues related to infection control, antimicrobial resistance and infections in transplantation. She serves as the associate editor for Infection Control and Hospital Epidemiology and the assistant deputy editor at Clinical Infectious Diseases. She is also co-editor of the 3rd edition of “Practical Healthcare Epidemiology.” 

Brief Biography
Preeti N. Malani, M.D., M.S.J., is an associate professor of medicine in the Divisions of Infectious Diseases and Geriatric Medicine at the University of Michigan and a research scientist at the Veterans Affairs Ann Arbor Healthcare System’s Geriatric Research Education and Clinical Center (GRECC). Dr. Malani is a graduate of the University of Michigan. She received her M.D. degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine. Prior to medical school, she completed a master’s in Journalism at Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism. She completed her internal medicine residency and infectious diseases fellowship at the University of Michigan where she also received a master’s degree in clinical research design and statistical analysis. Dr. Malani completed her fellowship training in Geriatric Medicine at the Oregon Health and Science University. She has been named among the Best Doctors in America and Best Doctors in Metro Detroit.
