Professor Claes B. Wollheim received his Swedish Physician qualification in 1970. He started his independent scientific career as an Assistant Professor at University of Geneva in 1982, and was promoted to Associate Professor in 1987 and full Professor in 1991. He served as Vice President of European Association for the Study of Diabetes from 1992-1995. He is an Elected Member of the European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO), and Research Council member of the Swiss National Science Foundation. He is a well-recognized leader in islet cell biology, with 258 original research articles and 25 reviews, and has received a number of prestigious awards, including Elected Member of the Swiss Academy of Medical Sciences (SAMS) and the Morgagni Gold Medal Prize.
