Do you offer Job Shadow experiences?

Yes, we offer job shadows.

A job shadow is a one-time experience, typically scheduled for between one and four hours with a sponsoring individual (to be identified) within a specifically defined unit/department/area. Scheduling is dependent on the department and sponsoring individual availability. The requesting individual (age 17 and above) will want to have a specific goal in mind and, to make best use of their time, prepare relevant questions prior to arriving.

The requesting individual must also be compliant with HIPAA regulations and be able to provide current documentation of required immunizations.

Are there one-on-one interview opportunities?

Yes, one-on-one interviews can often be arranged (as described above in #1) -or- you might also inquire about an interview with your personal health care provider(s).

A one-on-one interview is typically scheduled for one to two hours and dependent on availability. A requesting individual should have a specific learning purpose in mind and potential questions identified.

Can UMHS provide me with an internship?

Typically, an internship for allied health positions would be arranged between a specific allied health department and an affiliate school with the University of Michigan Health System. For Nursing positions, please call (734) 936-5183.


Do you offer presentations in (at) schools?

Yes. We currently receive a variety of requests for health career presentations as well as participation in portfolio days, mock interviews and career fairs. Typically our requests come from, middle and high schools. Please contact the Health Careers Outreach Coordinator at bjwin@umich.edu or (734) 647-1894 and/or Nurse Recruitment and Career Development at (734) 936-5183. We typically require a minimum of 30 days notice.


Do you offer tours?

Currently, we are able to offer only general tours in public areas.

Option: If your school or program would be interested in visiting us, we can arrange for a variety of departmental auditorium presentations. Speakers from various health care departments offering information on: various levels of positions within their departments, advancement opportunities, salary ranges, and how the work that is done in these departments relates to your individual health and well being.
