Pharmacy Technicians

As a Pharmacy Technician, you'll help licensed pharmacists provide medication and other health care products to patients and perform routine tasks to help prepare prescribed medication for patients, such as counting tablets and labeling bottles. You'll also refer any questions regarding prescriptions, drug information, or health matters to a pharmacist.

To prepare the prescription you'll retrieve, count, pour, weigh, measure, and sometimes mix the medication. Then, prepare the prescription labels, select the type of prescription container, and affix the prescription and auxiliary labels to the container. You will sometimes establish and maintain patient profiles, prepare insurance claim forms, and stock and take inventory of prescription and over-the-counter medications.

Join a team that encourages higher learning and supports individual desires to advance through a career ladder, hospital recognition program, salary bonuses and more.

How To Get Started

Ready to work around leading-edge technology and experience unrivaled support and collaboration with peers who are respected experts in the field? Then you're ready for a career as a Pharmacy Technician at UMHS.

Pharmacy Technicians need a High School Diploma or GED. However, we prefer that our technicians have completed a one year training program at an accredited institution, successfully completing the national certification examination.

Technicians work closely with pharmacists, other technicians and nursing staff in a fast-paced environment that required good manual dexterity in order to learn proper aseptic technique to prepare injectable drugs. They must be able to multi-task, prioritize and pay attention to details.
