In the dynamic, ever-changing world of pharmacy, there is no better place to be than UMHS. With 250 pharmacy professionals collaborating with physicians, nurses and other medical staff, our pharmacists focus on providing top-quality patient care and world-class services.
Pharmacists must be able to work in a fast-paced environment … paying meticulous attention to details while maintaining excellent customer service. They must be problem-solvers with the flexibility to adjust to changing conditions such as drug shortages, reallocation of staffing resources and the implementation of new technology. Furthermore, they need to be able to communicate complex information to other health care providers, as well as their co-workers, to ensure continuity of care.
Most importantly, you must have a strong commitment to quality patient care, be prepared to go the extra mile and have proven working knowledge of medications — mechanisms, appropriate use, dosing, side effects, product preparation, stability, expiration date, availability and cost.
At UMHS, Pharmacists must have a B.S. or Pharm.D. degree. A Pharm.D. degree requires 4 years of study in a College of Pharmacy after completing a minimum of 2 years of undergraduate prerequisites. You must also pass a national licensing exam as well as a Michigan specific law exam and possess a controlled substance license.
