Breast Cancer
There is hope, innovation and support available for those with breast cancer here at the U-M Comprehensive Cancer Center.
Patient Care and Treatment:People diagnosed with breast cancer may talk with surgical oncologists, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, plastic surgeons, gynecologists, social workers and nurses, and will have their mammograms and pathology slides read all in one day at one visit.
For those who need treatment for breast cancer, our philosophy is breast preservation, through lumpectomy and radiation therapy, when possible. We also offer immediate reconstruction using the patient's own tissue.
Research and innovation:
We offer clinical trials exclusive to our cancer center, as well as those sponsored by the National Cancer Institute. Much of our research focuses on
breast cancer stem cells to learn more about them and to determine the type of therapy most likely to destroy the cells.
Support:
We're sensitive to the anxiety women and men with breast cancer experience, so counseling
and emotional support are integral parts of the Breast Care Center. Our patients have access to
Patient/Family Support Services.
To fully understand what this means, please take time to visit this area of this website.
We outline the services available to our patients at every point in their care, including survivorship.
