Major Rankings and Honors
- The University of Michigan Health System saved Medicare money while improving the care of heart, diabetes patients. More info
- The University of Michigan Health System was honored by the American Hospital Association for highest quality care and patient safety. UMHS was the lone finalist for the AHA-McKesson Quest for Quality Prize. More info
- The University of Michigan Health System was cited as one of the reasons AARP The Magazine named Ann Arbor, Michigan, as the "No. 1 Healthiest City in which to Live and Retire." More info
- U-M Hospitals and Health Centers was named one of "America's Best Hospitals" for the 13th year in a row and received recognition for excellence in 15 areas of specialized care in the 2008 U.S. News and World Report. U-M is the only hospital in Michigan to receive this honor. More info
- C.S. Mott Children's Hospital was named one of "America's Best Children's Hospitals" and ranked in all seven specialty categories in the 2008 U.S. News and World Report. Most notably, Mott ranks 4 for heart and heart surgery, 15 for neonatal care, 16 for respiratory disorders and among the nation’s best for all other pediatric specialties - cancer, digestive disorders, general pediatrics, and neurology and neurosurgery. - U-M Hospitals and Health Centers consistently rank high on the Honor Roll of America's Best Hospitals compiled by U.S. News and World Report and was ranked 14th best in 2007. More info
- University of Michigan Hospitals and Health Centers selected for Thomas Top 100 Hospitals National Benchmarks for Success list. More info
- The U-M Medical School is ranked among the top in the nation by U.S. News and World Report. Among research-oriented medical schools, U-M tied for 11th overall among the nation’s 126 fully accredited medical schools and placed highly in four specialties: family medicine (7), geriatrics (5), women’s health (5), and internal medicine (7) .
- The U-M School of Nursing ranked 5th in the U.S. News and World Report ranking in 2007; its graduate program ranked 3rd.
- In 2007, C.S. Mott Children's Hospital ranked as the top children’s hospital in the state, and among the 25 best in the nation, according to a highly competitive national survey by Child magazine. More info
- In 2005 and 2006, the University of Michigan Health System was one of five members to be recognized by the University Health System Consortium as demonstrating excellence in delivering high-quality, safe, effective, and equitable care to their patients. More info
- U-M Hospitals and Health Centers has earned a place in Solucient's Benchmark of Success list of the "100 Top Hospitals in the U.S." More info
- The U-M Medical School Faculty Group Practice is one of only 10 physician groups in the U.S. selected to participate in the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Physician Group Practice health care quality project.
In the first year of the Medicare Demonstration Project, FGP and UMHS improved quality and coordination of care while saving $3.5 million. More info
