The Division of Hematology/Oncology is the largest subspecialty administrative unit in the Department of Internal Medicine. We care for patients with benign and malignant disorders of the blood and lymphatic organs as well as for patients with most types of solid tumor malignancies. Our faculty are on the leading edge of cancer research and are committed to providing our patients with the very best in patient care and treatment.
The division is comprised of 69 full time instructional and clinical track faculty, 15 research track faculty, 18 subspecialty trainees, greater than 20 postdoctoral research fellows,more than 30 administrative and clerical staff, over 60 laboratory personnel and over 30 physician extender staff.
Division faculty, students and laboratory personnel occupy >34,000 sq. ft. of lab space in several locations within the Medical Campus: the Cancer Center Building, MSRB II & III, Simpson Memorial Research Building, Medical Sciences I Building, Veterans Administrative Hospital Research Building, and the Life Sciences Institute Building.
In FY11, extramural support for basic and clinical research was $35 million in total costs including $21 million in federal and $8 million in non-federal funds. $23.4 million in new grant funding was awarded in FY11.
